OPF budget for next fiscal year approved


ISLAMABAD: The budget of Rs.2.2 billion for Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF) has been approved, Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Dr. Farooq Sattar said this while addressing a news conference after presiding over a meeting of Board of Governors of Overseas Pakistanis Foundation here.

He said the board has passed the OPF’s surplus budget for next financial year amounting to Rs 2.2 billion out of which about Rs 1.1 billion have been allocated for developmental projects which is 50 percent of the total budget.

With reference to the payment of claims of Iraq-Kuwait war affectees, he told that Rs 17 billion have been disbursed against 44,000 claimants between 1994 and 2007 under United Nations Claim Compensation programme by OPF.

He said that at present OPF was having Rs one billion out of which half amount would be disbursed among the 27,000 old affectees under the guidance of the Supreme Court while 20, 000 new claimants have also contacted OPF.

Farooq Sattar said that under OPF Valley Zone five, the first and second installments for two thousand plots were received.

He continued that the process of handing over of the possession of these plots to their allotees would be started by August 14 of this year and would be completed by June 30 of the next year.
